As of 11:00 June 6, 2006 Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Services has been live with an Intergraph Public Safety (IPS) Computer Aid Dispatch (CAD) system. This system provides call takers with the latest technology to be able to quickly and accuratley locate the callers location and type of complaint and create a incident. The system then provides dispatchers with the proper response types and units needed, and then automatically send the proper tone and/or Alphanumeric page to the first responders in the field.

 

The Intergraph CAD system is a map based system. Dispatchers are able to see caller/incident location information right on the map. This speeds call entry and reduces errors.

 

This system also provides for mobile computer terminals that allow the reponders in the field to receive and update calls directly in their vehicle. It also provides turn by turn instructions and a map view of where the call is. They can also see where other units of their department are located. Currently this is in use for police units only, but as of the end of 2007 the roll out to EMS and then Fire units has begun.

 

This is a timeline for the implementation of the new system.
